Alders & Brown is a brand new Yorkshire business on a mission to make it easy to buy fantastic food that’s locally produced.

The UK produces outstanding food and has some of the highest welfare standards in the world.  However, over half the food we consume is imported.  As a farmer’s daughter, with over 15 years experience working for supermarkets, you could say I’ve seen both sides, and my conclusion is simple;  Given the choice, most people would prefer to buy great food that’s in season, fresh and made by artisan producers but it needs to be easy and affordable.  That’s what we’ve set out to do with an online shop, free delivery, and prices that are fair.

Yorkshire already has an abundance of fine producers and ‘Alders & Brown’ is as much ‘about them’ as it is ‘about us’.  As the largest county in the UK, with over 70% of the land managed by agriculture, Yorkshire produces a wide range of food.  With its diverse geography, it’s perfect for beef and lamb that graze on the northern hills, to cereals and vegetables which are more suited to lower parts.  The region has over 7% of the UK dairy herd and Yorkshire forced rhubarb has EU protected name status.

But it’s not all about farming.  Yorkshire is home to a growing population of independent artisan producers, including expert cheesemakers, bakers, smokehouses, and charcutiers all of which are making exceptional and innovative food and drink using small-scale production techniques.  Nowhere is this more evident than the numerous Yorkshire craft breweries and distilleries, with the region being cited as a centre of excellence for one of the country’s most booming industries.

We’re really excited to be able to bring this unique range of products to your door, and our range is expanding all the time.  We’re also always increasing the number of postcodes where we deliver direct.  As we’re just getting started, we’re really keen for your feedback so if you’d like to ask or tell us something, please get in touch.
