You do not need to be in to receive your delivery and you can leave specific instructions at the checkout. Chilled items are packed in insulated packaging which will maintain temperature until you're ready to unpack - for over 24 hours! We aim to get all deliveries done by early afternoon, but in really busy periods we may need a little longer as many items, including all produce, are sourced or made same day to give you maximum freshness. By offering a slightly longer window we can reduce our impact on the environment with less emissions and miles. We'll also collect your packaging to clean and re-use and if you do happen to be in we'll deliver in paper grocery bags.
We take our alcohol license seriously and proof of age or a signature may be required. Alcohol will only be delivered to the designated address and handed to the recipient who must be over 18 and the originator of the order. If this is not possible, alcohol will be removed before the remainder of the order is left securely.
Alders & Brown is committed to reducing our impact on the environment. Our locally sourced products and delivery method offers a more sustainable solution for your fresh shop. We're also taking the following steps to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Because of the way we source and deliver we use significantly less plastic packaging, especially on our produce. If you do happen to be in when we arrive, we'll deliver in paper grocery bags.
Insulated packaging may look 'packaging heavy' but it is actually a much better environmental solution. Offering delivery 'slots' requires refrigerated vehicles that have very high emissions and have to travel excessive miles. The liners themselves are made from natural sheep's wool, a by-product that would otherwise be wasted. The wool is also fully compostable and biodegradable. And, it out-performs any man-made alternative. Perhaps most importantly, all of the insulated packaging can be re-used. Just leave it out on your next delivery. Or, if you want it out the way just send us an email telling us where you've left it and we'll pick it up when we're next passing, usually no more than a couple of days.
All of our meat is vacuum packed in clear plastic. It may not look as pretty as retail packaging such as black trays that you find in the supermarket but it is more widely recycled.
